Ambulatory Microphlebectomy
About the Procedure
Ambulatory Microphlebectomy is designed to remove smaller varicose veins through tiny incisions. The incisions made are so small that stitches are not required. Typically, this procedure is used to treat any varicose veins that may remain visible following endovenous laser therapy.
Preparation
Please do not take ibuprofen or aspirin during the week prior to your procedure.
You will initially be given a local anesthetic to numb the area to be treated. The CRL VeinClinic physician will then make very small incisions next to the veins that will be removed using a small needle or puncturing tool. For longer veins, multiple incisions will be made, allowing the vein to be removed one section at a time. The physician will then use specially-designed hooks to gently remove the diseased veins through the small incisions.
After the Procedure
Since no stitches are needed, your incisions will be closed using small strips of medical tape. You will be able to walk very shortly after your procedure and you can expect to leave the CRL VeinClinic after about 1 hour. You should be able to resume your normal activities within 1 or 2 days. Compression stockings and bandages should be worn as directed by your provider. Hot environments, such as hot baths and saunas should be avoided. Walking is encouraged.
Follow-up
While many veins can be treated during a single treatment
session, additional visits may be needed to remove all
of your varicose veins.
