Manager, Coding & Data Capture, Remote Full-Time (Benefit Eligible)

Primary Objective:

 To effectively manage the operations and staff of the Coding Department, and to assist with the operations of inbound billing data, ensuring efficient, effective, and appropriate coding and billing processes are utilized and maintained.  To provide documentation, coding education and compliance guidelines to coding staff.  To assign correct and appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes to radiology reports to ensure proper financial reimbursement, meet federal regulations, and adhere to compliance guidelines.


  • Effectively manages both onsite and remote coding staff, including hiring, training, coaching, performance reviews and terminations.  
  • Supervises the day-to-day operations of inbound billing data, ensuring timely receipt of and efficient processing of billing data for prompt and accurate billing, to achieve CRL established goals.
  • Ensures productivity and quality are meeting goals by continually monitoring and using reporting mechanism and analytics.  
  • Provides input and data to the Director regarding staffing, procedural issues and physician reports experienced within areas of responsibilities, and provides recommendations as needed.  Notifies CRL management of discrepancies and inconsistencies.
  • Educates coding staff in coding and compliance.  Documents training sessions and provides documentation and resources to staff.
  • Maintains updates on compliance, coding changes, and strategies for optimum reimbursement, and disseminates updates timely and appropriately.  
  • Performs various aspects of the assigned areas as necessary, to ensure a complete understanding of all work performed, and provides coverage as needed.
  • Ensures correct ICD10 and CPT code selection for compliance with Federal regulations and insurance requirements.
  • Assists the Coding Department with resolving Insurance denials. 
  • Assists the Insurance Department with resolving Insurance denials, including assisting with writing appeals.
  • Participates in formulating, documenting, and implementing policies and procedures for all assigned areas and updates as necessary.
  • Maintains a positive, engaging, and inclusive work environment by ensuring employees are held accountable and take personal responsibility for their daily activities, performance and behavior while treating other CRL employees with respect. 
  • Demonstrates the highest level of customer service in all forms of communication (e.g. face-to-face, verbal, email, etc.) with patients, CRL staff and physicians, and with external customers.  
  • Works closely with the Manager, Education & Compliance Clinical Documentation Improvement & Reimbursement, coordinating communication to and training of coders and physicians, regarding coding guidelines, payer policies, denial trends, dictation documentation, etc.
  • Troubleshoots and coordinates with I.T. on billing issues, that may include but are not exclusive to:  HL7 billing files, Imagine Billing software, coding applications, etc.
  • Provides support and mentorship to the Coding Lead.
  • Collaborates with other CRL leaders and assists CRL staff with coding inquiries in assigned areas and assists with any training issues related to assigned areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director, Business Office Operations.


  • Post high school education including an Associates or Bachelor’s degree in management, Healthcare Administration or related area preferred.  
  • Coding Certification (RCC and/or CCS-P and/or CPC) and completion of accredited coding curriculum.
  • Minimum 3 years Radiology Coding and Billing experience.
  • Minimum 5 years Radiology Management experience 
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT, medical terminology and anatomy, standard coding concepts, practices, and procedures within radiology.
  • Ability to successfully manage and build high-performing teams and develop/mentor staff.
  • Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality with regards to all aspects of CRL business operations, physicians, employees, patients and customers.
  • Ability to communicate in English, professionally and effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately.
  • Working knowledge of documentation/coding compliance guidelines.
  • Detail-oriented and resourceful.
