Nurse Practitioner

Full-Time (Benefit Eligible) located at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Schedule M-F; 40 hours per week.

Primary Objective:

To assist with symptom and case management for interventional radiology patients in both hospital and clinic settings.


Establishes and records a clinical diagnosis and/or problem list and formulates an appropriate plan of care for patients in a variety of settings.

Plans, prescribes and implements therapeutic and symptom management regimens that include both nursing and medical management strategies (pharmacological and non-pharmacological).

Assists in the direct management of various diseases in the acute inpatient, outpatient and clinic environment.

Assists in the ICU management of patients, often complicated with multi-system organ involvement. Participates in assessing and teaching patients for inpatient and outpatient procedures. In the clinic, provide patient assessment, education, risk factor management, and procedural options pertaining to their specific disease process.

Performs, orders, and/or interprets therapeutic, laboratory and diagnostic tests within the framework of advanced nursing practices. Interprets test results and provides instruction regarding treatment and medications to ensure patient understanding.

Manages caseload including H & P’s, orders, prescriptions, consults and dictations in collaboration with radiologists.

Provides ongoing counseling and education to patients and families regarding the plan of care and recovery of illness.

Initiates referrals and consultations with other advanced practice nurses, physicians and support services.

Provides clinical consultation and education to patients and support staff.

Participates in the development of improved methods for intervening in symptom management (clinical pathways/protocols) for patients within an interdisciplinary team framework.

Develops, implements and evaluates patient education materials pertaining to patient diagnosis and treatment options.

Participates in local, regional and national educational conferences to support and or alter clinical practice based on current research.

Participates in the coordination of new and ongoing clinical trials, including enrolling, case report forms, and IRB submissions.

Maintains QA database cases.

Works closely with the procedure room interventional and Body procedure team to achieve an efficient and safe flow of cases.



Minnesota Registered Nurse License.

Minnesota Nurse Practitioner Certification.

Successful completion of a recognized Nurse Practitioner program in an ambulatory or acute care setting.

Prescriptive privileges in the State of Minnesota.

Minimum 2 years experience in an inpatient environment. Exposure to radiology services is preferred.

Self-motivated and innovative.

Well-developed assessment, interviewing, counseling, problem-resolution and crisis intervention skills.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with other healthcare providers and support staff.
