Celebrating Excellence: Dr. Stephen Hite Inducted as Fellow of the American College of Radiology

We are thrilled to congratulate Dr. Stephen Hite on his recent induction as a Fellow of the American College of Radiology (ACR). This prestigious recognition represents the pinnacle of professional achievement in radiology and reflects Dr. Hite’s decades of exceptional service to patients, colleagues, and the medical community.

A Distinguished Career in Radiology

Dr. Hite brings extensive expertise in both Pediatric Imaging and Diagnostic Radiology to his practice at Consulting Radiologists, Ltd. His impressive educational foundation began at Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine, followed by his radiology residency at the University of Minnesota Medical School and a specialized fellowship in pediatric radiology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

Before joining CRL, Dr. Hite served as Director of Pediatric Radiology and Assistant Professor of Radiology at the University of Minnesota Medical School from 1994-2000. Today, his practice encompasses adult body imaging, and he serves as Medical Director of Imaging at District One Hospital in Faribault, Minnesota.

When asked about what drives his passion for radiology, Dr. Hite’s response captures the heart of his profession: “Caring for patients and serving my physician clients.”

Professional Excellence and Continuous Growth

Dr. Hite’s commitment to professional development is evident in his extensive certifications from the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Radiology, as well as his specialty certification in Pediatric Radiology. He maintains active membership in numerous field-related organizations, including the American Roentgen Ray Society, Society for Pediatric Radiology, and the Radiological Society of North America.

Throughout his career, Dr. Hite has consistently sought opportunities to expand his subspecialty expertise, developing skills in Body MRI, Cardiac CT, and nonvascular Body Interventional Radiology. One of his most meaningful professional experiences was participating in the development of a fetal imaging program in partnership with perinatal and Children’s Hospital staff—groundbreaking work that supported planning for fetal surgery at the frontier of medical innovation.

Leadership and Mentorship

Dr. Hite’s leadership extends beyond clinical practice. He served on the CRL Board for six years, contributing his expertise to guide the organization’s strategic direction. His commitment to nurturing the next generation of radiologists is evident in his recent work training nurse practitioners and physician assistants in their new roles within radiology practice.

His advice to new radiologists reflects both wisdom and passion for the field:
• NEVER stop being curious
• Spend time collaborating with other specialties through projects, conferences, or on-site hospital work
• Try to work in the hospital environment and seek out opportunities for direct patient contact—”They appreciate us!”

Vision for the Future

Dr. Hite embraces the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in radiology, viewing it as a catalyst for change and a powerful opportunity for the profession. “As a knowledge work field, AI will transform us for the better,” he explains. “We need to actively engage and embrace this advancement so we can shape its course.”
Beyond the Reading Room

Dr. Hite’s curiosity and passion for learning extend well beyond medicine. Over the past decade, he has pursued aviation training and is currently an instrument-rated private pilot working toward his commercial rating. His creative side finds expression through music, as he continues developing his skills on piano, guitar, and electronic music production.

A Well-Deserved Honor

Reflecting on his FACR achievement, Dr. Hite shared, “I am extremely honored to be chosen as an ACR fellow and will do my utmost to represent the organization and my specialty. It is a great capstone to my radiology career journey.”

The Fellowship of the American College of Radiology recognizes radiologists who have made significant contributions to the science of radiology, radiation oncology, or medical physics. Dr. Hite’s induction represents not only personal achievement but also recognition of his dedication to advancing patient care, medical education, and the radiology profession.
